biografische angaben: Born in New York, NY in 1910, Ida Abelman studied at the Grand Central Art School, the National Academy School of Fine Arts, the City College of the City of New York and at Hunter College under lithographer, Joe Miller.
She was a member of the American Artists Congress and she completed numerous projects for the Federal Arts Projects and the Works Progress Administration.
After 1938, Abelman worked in color lithography for the WPA/FAP. In 1938 she exhibited at the Federation Art Gallery in New York in a 48 states competition.
Before her death in 2002, Abelman had exhibited in the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the M.H. De Young Memorial Museum, and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. Additionally, her work is held in permanent collections such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
