biografische angaben: Born 1914 in Chicago, died 1980. American painter. Graduated from Englewood High School, he entered the School of the Art Institute at age sixteen as a scholarship student, and graduated in 1935, having worked under Louis Rittman and Boris Anisfeld. He taught at the School of the Art Institute and earned a B.A. at the University of Chicago under a Ryerson grant. He was employed by the WPA to crate murals at Hild and Austin Libraries and Englewood High School and, while a student at the School of the Art Institute, for the Fair Store in Oak Park. During World War II he was an illustrator for the government and toaught the art of camouflage. He lived in Oakland, California, and became a portraitist as well as a painter of the American landscape.
