biografische angaben: Born 1871 in Furth, Germany, died 1957. He studied at the Nuremburg Industrial Art School and Munich Academy of Arts, and founded his own architectural decoration firm when he was in his twenties. An important architectural decorator in Germany, he had work in theaters, department stores, government buildings, churches, and homes. In 1926 he left Germany, and he settled in Chicago in 1929. Praised by art critics as "among the living masters of the world," Moessel supported himself during the 1930s and 1940s through easel paintings of exotic birds and animals, religious scenes, and landscapes. He was plagued by progressive blindness in his last years.
