biografische angaben: Born June 16, 1935 in Cincinnati. American pop artist. He attended the University of Cincinnati, Boston Museum School, and Ohio University, graduating in 1957. Moving to New York in 1959, he took part in the development of "happenings" – nonverbal, unrehearsed, and often spontaneous performances gererally given before an audience that sometimes participated. He was also associated with the rise of pop art, a movement that focused on objects of the mass media and popular culture. The personal themes he developed in the 1960s have occupied him throughout his career. To his earliest images of the bathrobe, heart, household tools, necktie, and palette and brushes, Dine added others such as the tree, gate, and classical torso. Many of these appear in his Nuveen Painting. A fine draftsman, he also creates sculptural objects in such materials as aluminium, wood, and bronze.
