biografische angaben: Born 1887 in St. Petersburg, died 1975. He entered the Royal Academy of Art at an early age. He served in the Russian army until the 1917 revolution, when he escaped to Paris. Joining such avant-garde artists as Léon Bakst, Boris Anisfeld, Mikhail Larionov, and Natalya Goncharova, he designed stage decorations for Sergei Diaghilev's ballet company. He came to the United States in 1922 to help create a theater production for a Russian Group performing in New York and remained in this country, becoming a United States citizen. He created decorations for Chicago ballet companies, the Museum of Science and Industry, country houses, and the Women's Athletic Club.
